Up close and personal with the new Porsche 997 Carrera and the Ferrari Challenge Stradale, two of the most high-priced track battles ever fought by Best Motoring and tackling the infamous Nurburgring in the new Evolution IX. Plus much more in Best Motoring 14: Carrera Invasion! CARRERA INVASION • 997 Carrera S vs 997 Carrera • 997 Mechanical Check • 0-400m Battle • Giant Performance Test • 5 lap Battle Sugo International Best Motoring looks at the new 997 Porsche Carrera & Carrera S. The legendary Gan-san (Motoharu Kurosawa) compares the two around the tight and twisty Link circuit, evaluating the extra 30hp in the S model, and also relating them back to the 996 model. The next tests are acceleration (0-400m) and braking (150-0km/h) against the Ferrari 360 Modena, the 996 Porsche 911 turbo, Honda NSX-R and the 35th Anniversary 300hp Nissan 350Z ST in both 0-400m and 150km/h-0km/h braking. These cars are then timed through the first three corners of the Sugo circuit to check out their handling. Finally is the much anticipated 5-lap Sugo track battle. The all star line-up is: • 997 Porsche 911 Carrera (Naoki Hattori) • 997 Porsche 911 Carrera S (Gan-san) • 996 Porsche 911 Turbo (Takashi Ohi) • Ferrari 360 Modena (Tetsuya Tanaka) • Honda NSX-R (Takuya Kurosawa) • Nissan 350Z (Seiji Ara) Anyone familiar with the Best Motoring track battles knows that these guys don't hold back - no matter how much these exotics cost. LANCER EVO IX - NURBURGRING SUPER TIME ATTACK Dual Super Taikyu champion Takayuki Kinoshita takes the Evolution IX prototype for a lap of the famous Nurburgring circuit. The 'ring is an icon of performance motoring test circuits, despite being a public road. The best bit is you get to ride along inside the car and watch Kinoshita as he pushes the Evo to the limit in damp, slippery conditions, dodging road works and clocking top speeds of over 200km/h! GOROKO - THE SHOGUN EPISODE 1 It's Best Motoring vs the Japanese motoring media in a battle for automotive honour! Yoshihiro Nirei and Takashi Ohi are challenged by Auto Sport's Koji Tanaka (Managing Editor), Holiday Auto's Hideaki Kato (Journalist), Genroa's Yasuo Miyagawa (Journalist) and GT-R Magazine's Koya Noda (Managing Editor). The first battle is a 3-lap dash around Tsukuba in a Mazda MX-5 NR-A with full track options. They're closely followed by the Goroko - The Shogun - Gan-san in the Mazda RX-8 camera car, who casts a (sometimes very) critical eye over their performances. Eliminating the slowest two after the Roadster challenge, they then progress to a full open-wheeler, a Mazda RX-8 and the Lotus Elise 111R. If the media can beat the Best Motoring journos, then they get to challenge Gan-san for a Time Attack shootout! FERRARI CHALLENGE STRADALE SUPER BATTLE TWIN RING MOTEGI Best Motoring definitely saved the best for last in this DVD. Introducing the Ferrari Challenge Stradale, a couple of hot laps in Maranello's newest superstar and we're ready to go racing around Motegi's awesome East Circuit. The entry list is: • Ferrari Challenge Stradale (Naoki Hattori) • Lamborghini Gallardo e-gear (Takuya Kurosawa) • Porsche 911 GT3 Club Sport (Shinichi Yamaji) • BMW M3 CSL (Takashi Ohi) • Honda NSX-R (Motoharu Kurosawa) • Ferrari 360 Modena F1 (Takayuki Kinoshita) What follows is one of the best track battles Best Motoring has ever had. These guys don't give an inch and it's almost scary how little regard they have for these cars! As a bonus extra, there's a preview of 'Hot Version 3: American Touge'.
