MELBOURNE WORKSHOP SHOOTOUT A first for Australian car DVDs, Serious Performance threw out the challenge to Melbourne workshops - give us your fastest all-round performance street car for the inaugural Melbourne Workshop Shootout! With V8 Supercar stars Warren Luff & Paul Dumbrell as our independent test drivers, five workshops brought along a variety of cars -to battle the clock and each other. His 1959 Ford Anglia with a wicked Nissan SR20DET engine pumps out 370hp and does the quarter-mile in 12 seconds. This flame-adorned orange and white pocket rocket is a great example of modern power in a classic shape. FAST FINNS Heikki, our man in Finland, brings us five very different, but very impressive modified cars on the way to EuroCruise, one of Finland's major car shows. There's the 250hp supercharged Lexus IS200 with the full DTM kit, an 880hp, 9-second R32 GT-R, a 650hp Toyota Supra that's a member of the 300km/h club, plus a turbocharged WRC-replica Ford Focus and a Subaru Impreza STi improved with the Australian-made APS turbo kit and various STi Spec C components. BREWED COOPERS The Mini Cooper S has been the icon of small car performance since the 1960s. So we took the 2005 model, complete with a John Cooper Works supercharger kit upgrade to Calder Park and gave it to our professional drivers Warren Luff & Paul Dumbrell to test out. As a benchmark, we brought along a 1964 Morris 850 - with a very contemporary DOHC VTEC Honda powerplant. RX ENGINEERING One of Australia's most respected workshops, RX Engineering always has a strong representation at the annual Queensland Jamboree. We go behind the scenes to look at a couple of their top project cars and then travel to Jamboree with a couple of their benchmark cars: the 8-second DRAGME 13B Cosmo-powered RX-3 and a 9-second, 600hp, 13B turbo Series 2 RX-7. 12 FOR 12 Can you get a modified car capable of 12-second passes for a mere $12,000? Grant Warne says you can, and sets out to prove it in his Jap-import 3.0-litre Toyota Soarer. Boasting a 6-cylinder 7M-GTE powerplant, pro driver David Krause gives it a thorough test at Oran Park before heading to the drag strip for the 12-For-12 acid test! MIKA & MERCEDES Now this is old-school with a difference. A very rare, 1961 220SC Mercedes fitted with a supercharged Chevy V8 boasting 480hp. Another of our man in Finland's finds, this time he ropes in former F1 driver Mika Salo for a tyre-frying evaluation drive. S15 DRIFT BUILD Drift fanatic Stephen Brennan is a man on a mission - to take a brand new Nissan S15 200SX and turn it into a top-level drift machine. We follow each stage of the build-up, showing exactly what was done and why. Each stage is then tested by Australia's top drifters, plus an exclusive test with D1 star Izumida Yuki at the Drift Nationals! If you ever wanted to know the pros and pitfalls of a drift build-up, this is the story for you. GEARBOXES Following Brian El-Hassan's well-known MRWRX nitrous-fed STi at Queensland's Jamboree seemed like a great idea for a story. But the best-laid plans often go astray - and so did our cameraman. All the way to the bikini contest! Hosted by Fat Pizza's Pauly, the bikini comp saw the girls, including Ralph covergirl Tina Wallman and Rachael from Big Brother, step up to the plate in a no-assets-hidden bid for the winners sash and cheque. (Warning, Bikini Babe and Easter Egg footage not suitable for the kiddies). SOVIET SLIDER Here's what happens when you put a camera on an extrovert with a modified S15 200SX - drifting Rodski style. The carpark will never be the same...
